The Last Shredded Tatters of the Old Year

Before we get started, Shafe, if you happen to be reading this, our internet is working, but for some reason gaining access to Hotmail has been a Herculean task. I'll e-mail as soon as I can. Really.

Now for our confused Best ofs Lists.

Best Comics of 2004: I can't remember everything I read, and I sure can't remember what all came out in 04 specifically. Still, here's what rocked that I can remember. New X-Men (Grant Morrison only), Sea Guy, WE3, Planetary, Global Frequency, Frank Ironwire, The Ultimates, Wanted, Love and Rockets, One Piece, Naruto, GYO. Worst Comic of 2004: The Unfunnies.

Best Movies of 2004: Spiderman 2, Hellboy (Big surprise, two comic book movies on my list), Sideways (Best pure film of the year), Team America, Napoleon Dynamite, Garden State, and I'm sure there's a couple more I'm forgetting. Worst Movie of 2004: What I didn't watch: Catwoman. What I did watch: Alien vs. Predator.

Best TV of 2004: This will be real short, cause I only have one channel that comes in. Simpsons, King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle, Arrested Development, and the Fox Box Saturday Morning Cartoon Line-up. Worst TV of 2004: Trading Spouses or Nanny 911.

Perhaps this wasn't the most inspired year in History, but oh well, better luck next year.

Other movies to mention, and I'm checkin IMDB just to make sure that these qualify for 2004:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindCollateralBefore SunsetMiracle (I'm a little biased, but for a disney flick it was good)
Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (the better of the two films, although Vol 1 had the longest and coolest ("collest" if you're from Noble) fight scene at the end. Any 100 ninjas scene done well is good in my book

there are a lot of movies that I haven't seen that I wished that I had. I did see I, Robot but the fact that the CGI robots showed more emotional range than the lead "Getting Jiggy Wit' It" male, I can't help but not include this one in any list, with the exception of "Great attempt at making a third movie" which would at least nominate Alex Proyas for this one. His other films include The Crow and Dark City, but now on further reconsideration there were at least two other films that he's done in between each of the aforementioned films.

Sorry Al. No biscuit. The film is a decent attempt at merging science fiction with some of the earlier ties to Metropolis (1927) (which I'm sure influenced Isaac Asimov a great deal in his literary background) and the possible Marxist criticism floating around.

Here are some sites that may help explain the possible Asimov/Lang connection:
A Tribute to Robots in Entertainment (a timeline)
We, Robots (a Salon.com article)

Sorry Joe. Probably could have just posted on my own site. I may still copy this and past it there yet. Thanks.

Come on, guys....Harry Potter was unarguably the best movie of the year.

By the way, book 6 comes out on my wedding day.

I'm sure you noticed, Joe, that mine attempts at updating the web site have went the wayside. Part of that was that, like you, I've not had internet for any real amount of time (ie, more than fifteen minutes), for about two weeks, now....much to the chagrin of my mom when she tried to play some serious internet Bingo... Which is unfortunate, as had she played, and done well, she may have finally allowed this new fangled monstrosity into her home. That's right, despite the fact that I had a virtually fulltime internet connection when I lived with her, she still refuses to allow it for my siblings. But I digress...
